ReSport certification is currently available for mass participation sporting events (running, cycling, triathlon, walks, etc) committed to responsible event production. The process includes a paperless, online assessment (documentation of sustainability initiatives) and on-site verification at the event itself.

Registration is now open for events wishing to certify in 2010. Events must apply for certification at least 45 days before the date of the event, unless otherwise agreed upon by a designated CRS representative. For race directors and/or organizations wishing to have their entire fleet of races certified for 2010, please contact Kirstin Gunderson for the discounted fee structure. The 2010 certification application can be found here.

  1. Begin by reading "Why to Certify" to understand how Resport certification might help your event and its sustainability goals.

  2. Become a Resport event member to gain access to the online assessment system and Companion Manual.

  3. Once you have documented your sustainability initiatives through the assessment system, you can apply for certification. Contact us to schedule an on-site verification at least a month prior to your event. The certification fee depends on the duration of your event:

*Alternate small events are single-day events of less than 400 participants. This certification does not require on-site evaluation and is valid for one year. Events wishing to pursue this path can only obtain the "Certified" level - intentions to progress to Silver, Gold, or Evergreen require a site visit.

  4. How to calculate your certification fee: Begin with the base fee, which every event pays regardless of size. Add to this the duration of your longest race within the event time period. For example, a one-day event hosting a 5k run, 10k run, and half-marathon at the same time would add the fee for a medium event to the base fee. If the 10k run and the half-marathon are held at different times, or on different days, add both the medium event fee and the short event fee to the base fee. For multiple-day events, the same model applies: the total fee includes the base fee plus the fee for the longest race on each day.

  5. Events pursuing certification which require a site visit are responsible for covering the cost of travel and lodging, if necessary. All efforts are made to assign local ReSport evaluators to attend certifying events.

  6. Although certification is valid for two years, an event can choose to recertify at a higher level (from Silver to Gold, for instance) before the two-year period expires. Events wishing to do this pay the recertification base fee, plus the individual race fee, in the above table.

  7. The on-site evaluation makes events eligible for Certified, Silver, Gold, and Evergreen levels of certification based on credits earned through the standards. Certification is valid for two years.
